How Solar Power Works
Solar panels convert sunlight into direct current (DC) electricity using the photovoltaic effect. A charge controller regulates the flow into batteries (for off-grid systems), and an inverter converts DC to the alternating current (AC) that your home appliances use.
Panels produce the most power during peak sun hours — the hours per day when the sun is strongest (typically 4-6 depending on location).
Components You'll Need
- Solar panels — convert sunlight to DC.
- Inverter — converts DC to AC for your home.
- Mounting hardware — racks and rails for roof or ground.
- Wiring & disconnects — properly rated cable, breakers, fuses.
- Batteries (optional) — energy storage for off-grid or backup.
- Monitoring — track production and consumption.
Planning Your System
